Spain thrashed Costa Rica 7-0 in the first round of Group E at the 2022 World Cup. Ferran Torres struck twice, Garvey and Olmer crossed, Marco Asensio, Luis Sorrer, and Alvaro Morata scored.
Spain took control of the game from the start. Peter passes, and Olmer is in front of the small box with a diagonal shot that grazes the post. Asensio then shot narrowly wide of the right upright after Pedrie’s pass. Spain took the lead in the 11th minute when Garvey’s through ball was blocked and deflected, and Olmer stopped the ball and wheeled it into the net in front of the small box.
Marco Asensio volleyed a 14-yard pad into the back corner from Alba’s cross from the left in the 21st minute to make it 2-0. In the 31st minute, Duarte fouled Alba in the penalty area, and Ferran – Torres took the penalty kick to make it 3-0.
In the 54th minute, Ferran Torres broke to the right edge of the small box from Garvey’s pass and fired home 4-0. Garvey made it 5-0 in the 74th minute with a 15-yard volley that hit the inside of the bottom right post from Morata’s cross from the left.
90th minute, Navas saved a cross ball, Soler’s small box in front of the thrust into the net, 6-0. 92nd minute, Morata, with Olmo kick wall after the edge of the penalty area, shot into the bottom left corner, 7-0.
